Dr. Jirsa is Head of the Theoretical Neuroscience Group (TNG). One principal objective of TNG is to understand the mechanisms underlying the emergence of function from brain network dynamics. This endeavor naturally requires to consider brain states and processes, and describe them on multiple scales. To shed light on these processes, TNG studies on the one hand the brain dynamics as an organized activity emerging from its elementary circuitry and components; on the other hand, TNG investigates these organizational principles for specific test cases through large-scale computation. Specific examples include the brain and behavioral dynamics of perception-action and the primate brain’s resting state; examples of pathological dynamics include various cortical (e.g., epilepsy) and global dysfunctions (e.g., psychiatric disorders).
