    Giovanni Gallavotti

    Dr. Giovanni Gallavotti (b. 1941 Dec 29) graduated cum laude in Physics from the University of Rome in 1963. In 1964 he was non-tenured Professor at the University of Florence while in graduate school. After post-docs in Paris and New York, and Professorships in Rome, Naples, and Princeton, he returned to "La Sapienza" University of Rome where he is now a Professor in the Department of Physics.

    In 2007 Dr. Gallavotti was awarded the Boltzmann Medal from the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics for his work in statistical physics. He has also been given the Premio Nazionale Presidente della Repubblica from the Accademia dei Lincei, Italy (1997). He has been President of the International Association of Mathematical Physics, and sits on the editorial boards of range of journals.

    Gallavotti has played a key role in the recent development of statistical mechanics, and his work in nonequilibrium states has been especially widely cited. He has written more than ten textbooks, and has hundreds of publications to his credit.
