Alain Destexhe did his PhD in the department headed by Ilya Prigogine at the Free University of Brussels (Belgium) in 1992 and his postdoc with Terrence Sejnowski at the Salk Institute of San Diego until 1995. After a 5-year faculty position at Laval University (Québec, Canada), he became a research director at the UNIC of CNRS in Gif-sur-Yvette in 2000.
Dr. Destexhe was an ATIP young researcher startup from CNRS in 2000 and received CNRS Silver Medal in 2008. He is Editor in Chief of the Journal of Computational Neuroscience and of the Springer Series of Computational Neuroscience.
Dr. Destexhe's research interests stand at the interface between physics (dynamical systems) and neuroscience (electrophysiology). Applying concepts of dynamical systems and complex systems to analyze neuronal activity, as well as designing models of single neurons and neuronal networks, is at the basis of his research.
