    This is an authoritative and well-written review that will certainly be a very valuable resource in the field. Attention to a few issues would improve the article prior to final approval.

    The treatment of “S2” could benefit from some refining. Parietal opercular cortex contains 3, not 4, somatosensory fields, with human OP1, OP3 and OP4 corresponding, respectively, to macaque S2, VS and PV (Eickhoff et al., 2007, 2008) while OP2 appears to be the locus of vestibular responsiveness (Eickhoff et al., 2007).

    The review of finger somatotopy could also cite Martuzzi et al. (Human Brain Mapping, 35: 213-226, 2014).

    The sections on mapping of higher-level tactile perception and information flow could benefit from some broadening. For instance, it would be desirable to cite work showing a role for parietal opercular as well as visual cortex in tactile texture processing (Stilla & Sathian, Human Brain Mapping 29: 1123-1138, 2008; Sathian et al., NeuroImage 57:462-475, 2011; Eck et al., 75: 123-135, 2013). It would also be relevant to note the relationship of posteromedial parietal cortical activity and connectivity to tactile spatial acuity (Stilla et al., Journal of Neuroscience 27: 11091-11102). With regard to information flow and timing, the fMRI findings of Sathian et al. (2011) in relation to dual pathways are pertinent, as are the electrophysiological findings of Lucan et al. (Human Brain Mapping, 31: 1813-1821) and Adhikari et al. (NeuroImage 91: 300-310, 2014).

    Minor edits were made to remove an unnecessary hyphen in “postcentral” and, under Penfield, 1st para, 4th sentence, to replace “which” by “whom”.
