    1992 - 1995: Spokesperson of the H1 Collaboration at DESY, Hamburg

    1996 - 2001: Head of Department, « Département d’Astrophysique, de Physique des Particules de Physique Nucléaire et de l’Instrumentation Associée » (DAPNIA), CEA Saclay. The DAPNIA consists of 300 technicians, 150 engineers and 250 physicists.

    2002 - 2004: President of the Science Policy Committee at CERN (SPC)

    2010 - pres.: President of the Sciences Exactes et Naturelles (SEN-2) Commission of the Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS, Belgium).


    • Main research activities

    1969 - 1975: Elementary particles experiment π-- p ⇒ π0 n, π-p ⇒ ηn at Saturne in CEA/Saclay (thesis work).

    1976 - 1985: Experiment at CERN on muon nucleon deep inelastic scattering. Responsible of development, construction and test of 100 Muliti Wire Propotional Chambers. Contact person (Technical coordinator) then Deputy Spokesperson of the Collaboration.

    1983 - 1984: Design, construction and test of a Water Cerenkov prototype detector towards a neutrino elastic scattering experiment.

    1985 - 1998: H1 experiment at HERA in Hamburg. In 1992, H1 is an international collaboration of about 400 physicists from 11 countries. Founding member of the Collaboration in 1985. Coordinator of the construction of the liquid argon calorimeter. Co-Physics Coordinator until 1992. Spokesperson (head) of the Collaboration from 1992 to 1995.

    1996 - 2001: Scientific guidance of the DAPNIA, a laboratory of research of the CEA (France) into the fundamental laws of the Universe.

    2006 - 2008: Convenor of a joined HERA physics working group at DESY (Hamburg)

    2006 - pres.: Analysis of HERA data and contribution to publications.

    2007 - pres.: Member of the steering group of the PDF4LHC working group at CERN.

    • Teaching activities

    Professor in Summer schools : Herceg Novi (1979), Varna (1985), SLAC-SSI (1989), CERN-Aachen (1992), ITEP (1994), Cargèse (1996).

    Superviser of 9 PhD students (1980-1997).
