Uriel Frisch (b. Dec. 10, 1940 in Agen, France) is a mathematical physicist widely regarded for his contributions in Fluid Dynamics and Turbulence. he received his B.S. in 1962 and Ph.D. in 1967 in Applied Mathematics from University of Paris, after which he stayed at the National Research Center (CNRS). Presently, he is Research Director Emeritus at CNRS.

Dr. Frisch has received numerous honors and awards for his research. He received the Peccot Prize from the Collège de France in 1967 for his thesis. He also received the Bazin Prize form Academy of Sciences for work on turbulence in 1985, and the Knight National Order of Merit in 1994. He was the Recipient Lewis Fry Richardson medal of Eur. Geophys. Soc. in 2003 and elected as Member French Academy of Sciences in 2008. He is a Chevalier of the Ordre national du Mérite and the recipient of the 2010 Modesto Panetti e Carlo Ferrari prize.

Dr. Frisch is perhaps best known for his research on turbulence. Since the late 1960s he has been deeply involved in theoretical and numerical studies of turbulence for both ordinary flow and magnetohydrodynamical flow, and in nonlinear and statistical phenomena studies in geophysical and astrophysical fluid dynamics. He and his students have contributed to the renewal of this subject in France and worldwide. His 1995 book Turbulence; the Legacy of A.N. Kolmogorov is a classic in the field of turbulence.
