Dr. James A. Bednar accepted the invitation on 5 November 2009 (self-imposed deadline: 5 March 2010).

Topographica is a software package developed by computational neuroscience researchers at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Texas at Austin for modeling neural maps. The goal is to help understand brain function at the level of the topographic maps that make up sensory and motor systems. Topographica complements low-level neural simulators like Genesis and Neuron that focus on the detailed internal behavior of neurons and small networks of them. Instead, Topographica focuses on the large-scale structure and function that is visible only when many thousands of such neurons are connected into topographic maps containing millions of connections.
