Scholarpedia talk:Article naming
From Scholarpedia
Vocabulary is often field-specific. E.g. "Language" means something different in computer science and linguistics.
When there is a possibility that the names of scholarly articles might conflict, the following policy applies.
If X is the name of the topic under discussion, and Y is the relevant field, then
Proposal 1a
X (Y)
- Advantages
- Similar to Wikipedia
- Disadvantages
- May be in appropriate for a stand-alone article title
Proposal 1b
X (Y)
... but "(Y)" for citation purposes, "(Y)" is dropped.
- Advantages
- Similar to Wikipedia
- Clean-looking citation
- Disadvantages
- Potentially ambiguous citations
Proposal 2
X in Y
- Advantages
- Likely to look better as a stand-alone citation
- Disadvantages
- Wordy
- Could be confusing when an article title would have an "in" within it for other reasons.
