A Sponsor publicly vouches for both the article and the individual(s) proposing it. By sponsoring an article, the Sponsor asserts that:
- the proposed topic has scholarly merit
- the proposed topic has scholarly relevance
- the proposed authors are, in fact, whom they claim to be
- the proposed authors have the ability to write a scholarly review of the proposed topic
