A Sponsor publicly vouches for both the article and the individual(s) proposing it. By sponsoring an article, the Sponsor asserts that:

1. the proposed topic has scholarly merit
2. the proposed topic has scholarly relevance
3. the proposed authors are, in fact, whom they claim to be
4. the proposed authors have the ability to write a scholarly review of the proposed topic
