Dr. Joseph Grames
Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, Newport News, Virginia 23606 USA
Joseph attended the Stevens Institute of Technology and graduated in 1992 with a major in physics and a minor in mathematics. He then attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating with a Ph.D. in physics in January, 2000. His doctoral research took place at Jefferson Lab, measuring and commissioning the first polarized electron beam and polarimeters at CEBAF. In 2000, he joined Jefferson Lab as a staff scientist and is now Deputy of the Electron Gun Group, responsible for the CEBAF polarized electron injector. He regularly serves as liaison to cross divisional projects and recently led an upgrade of the CEBAF injector in support of future experiments. Joseph often mentors students and advises a doctoral candidate. His research interests aim at state-of-the-art developments in polarized electron sources in support of future accelerator projects; lately, in a novel experiment to generate polarized positrons.
